ORT’s Computerized Accounting Certificate program orients our students to the world of finance for business and industry as well as preparing them for support roles in accounting and for the financial services industry. You will learn about tax preparation laws and procedures and become proficient in relevant software: accounting, spreadsheet and database systems. This training can lead you to career opportunities as an accounting assistant, a tax preparation professional, and a payroll or data processing clerk. You will also be needed by temporary service agencies and corporations or be a bookkeeper for a company.

Students must be a high school graduate or equivalent, pass the school's entrance exam and be interviewed by the Admissions Department. Class size is limited to one student per computer using accounting industry standard software and equipment.  Average class size is 12 students. ORT is committed to small classes to increase your learning speed, retention and instructor attention.

This Accounting Certificate program is taught 5 hours per day, 4 days per week, or 20 hours per week for 35 weeks. The evening classes are taught 4.5 hours per each session four times a week or 18 hours per week for 40 weeks.

Computerized Accounting Objectives:

Students in ORT Technical Institute’s Computerized Accounting Certificate program will:

  • Gain knowledge of tax preparation laws and procedures
  • Prepare for support roles in business accounting
  • Be prepared for support roles in the financial services industry
  • Have proficiency in spreadsheet, accounting and database systems software
  • Increase business efficiency by using the computer in financial applications

By completing the Accounting Certificate program ORT students will be prepared to apply their skills as:

  • An employee in industries such as banking, insurance or real estate
  • An accounting assistant
