ORT Technical Institute’s Chicago Computer Aided Design (CADD) and Drafting program is designed to prepare students, with no prior drafting or computer experience to become proficient entry level CADD and Drafting operators using AutoCAD software. The curriculum covers all of the corresponding 2D CADD functions for traditional Computer Drafting, CADD simulation as well as extensive 3D modeling. You will generate CADD portfolio drawings in class as part of your course work, to help you secure employment in the industry. Special attention is paid to drawing, dimensioning and annotating CADD drawings. Our CADD students have access to the professional equipment typically used in a professional design environment including personal computers (one per student), high resolution displays, laser printers, plotters, and AutoCAD software. Nearly all offices with specialties using technical graphics now use Computer Aided Design and Drafting for faster, more accurate and cheaper CADD drawings. Fields such as architecture, construction, aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, military, electronics, mapping, animation, simulation, civil and structural engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering have a pressing need for qualified CADD professionals. ORT’s Computer Aided Design & Drafting students must be high school graduates or equivalent, pass the school's entrance exam and be interviewed by the Admissions Department. Class size is limited to one student per computer and you will be trained on software and equipment that is standard in the field. ORT’s average class size is 12 students because we want to increase your learning speed, retention and ability to have one on one instructor attention. The program is taught 5 hours per day, 4 days per week, or 20 hours per week for 35 weeks. The evening classes are taught 4.5 hours per each session four times a week or 18 hours per week 40 weeks.
